The part of the game almost nobody trains. Skating and hands can be drilled anywhere. What separates players at the next level is what happens before the puck arrives: where they look, what they see, and how fast they decide. The Hockey Sense Camp trains exactly that — scanning, reading pressure and support, and choosing the right option a half-second earlier than everyone else. The camp is led by coaches who had to make those reads for a living. Kris Beech was a first-round NHL draft pick who played almost 200 NHL games and now coaches in Sweden’s SHL. Jim Midgley is an assistant coach with the New York Rangers and Team Canada, and the private coach two of the best players in the world go to. Sessions feel less like drills and more like game situations slowed down until players can finally see them — then sped back up until the read becomes instinct.
